Guidelines

Objectives and content criteria

The Weizenbaum Library (WL) is the Weizenbaum Institut's open access repository. It offers the possibility of electronic publication of scientific research results in the field of digitisation research in accordance with the principles of open access.

The operation and further development of the repository incorporates recommendations and standardisations from national and international initiatives such as the German Initiative for Network Information (DINI) and the Open Archives Initiative (OAI).

Collection profile

The Weizenbaum Library collects the institutes's open publications, primarily journal articles, books, contributions to anthologies, conference papers and research data, provided that these can be made available under a free licence. In particular, it stores the Weizenbaum Publications and makes them accessible.

The publications also include non-textual media such as lecture recordings and podcasts. In this way, the Library recognises the growing diversity of possible forms of scientific output.

Terms of use

In principle, the free use of the content provided is subject to compliance with the applicable copyright provisions and the exploitation and personal rights of third parties. Printing, downloading and storing the data is permitted exclusively for private, scientific and non-commercial purposes. Any use or distribution beyond this is not permitted without the express consent of the respective rights holders. If a document has been made available under a Creative Commons licence, the rights of use granted in the licence specified therein shall apply in deviation from these terms of use.

Services

The Weizenbaum Library makes scientific documents available on the internet for research and teaching purposes in accordance with quality standards. The electronic documents are assigned permanent addresses and are indexed via national and international library catalogues, search engines and other reference tools. These include the following services, among others:

  • Bielefeld Academic Search Engine (BASE)
  • OPENAire Explore
  • DataCite
  • Google Scholar, Google Search, Microsoft Bing and comparable search engines
  • Online catalogues at university libraries in Germany

Documents are permanently accessible and can be clearly cited. Once published, a document cannot be changed or deleted. It is possible to create versions of a document if changes or corrections appear necessary. For older versions, a reference to the latest version of the document will then appear.

Only in exceptional cases and at the express request of the authors or rights holders, or if there are valid reasons, will the full text be deleted from the database. The corresponding metadata will then be deleted. Only in exceptional cases and at the express request of the author or rights holder, or if there are valid reasons, will the full text be deleted from the database. However, the corresponding metadata will remain accessible via the PID to ensure stable linking. A clear and multilingual note will indicate the reasons for deletion.
